Only the Good Notes

Christmas #2

After an amazing Thanksgiving in the mountains, then Christmas #1 with my family, and a quiet New Year’s Eve at home (just the two three of us), we are now preparing for Christmas #2 with Todd’s parents back up in the North Georgia mountains…in the cabin where we got engaged!

Travel schedules didn’t allow us all to be together this year for Christmas, but that is the plan for our holidays going forward. :)

Now that we’ve stayed in this cabin we know exactly what they have – and don’t – and what we need in order to cook and be comfortable. We’ve established our menu and I’ve created a document that serves as our meal planner, shopping list(s), and our packing checklist.

We’re all going up for a long weekend later this month. Getting very excited!

I just hope the weather dries out and cools off. I want our winter back!!

Create Experiences…Not Escapes…

Sunrise from our cabin...

Stephanie and I are in the mountains for several days. But, I’ve struggled with what to call this trip…

Vacation? Getaway? Weekend escape?

Those don’t seem right. Because that implies we needed to escape. I love the life we live. I love the life we are working to build. I love that we are entrepreneurs happily laboring to build and grow our respective businesses.

In the past, I’ve needed to escape my life. I’ve needed to do things that took my mind off things. I watched films to give me a two hour distraction from life.

I don’t need that now. And that’s my hope for everyone — that you build a lifestyle that doesn’t require the need to escape. That doesn’t require the need to take a break from it.

No, I am looking at this trip as creating an experience. Building a memory, if you will.

When the day comes that we have to drive home, I won’t be sad. Because I will be happy to get back to our normal life routine. I might miss living the experience, but I won’t be sad because I have to “come back to reality.”

I used to dread Sunday nights. I didn’t want to go to school the next day, or later, dreaded going back to work. Now, Sunday is just another day. As an entrepreneur who works from home, we work anytime, any hour, and don’t really work a typical work week, even though many of our clients do.

No, these few days in the mountains are just a wonderful experience. For us, we will just call Ellijay, GA home for several days. Life is going on for us, in fact, we are working whilst here and futzin’ online like we normally do.

We just have a cool view while doing it…

Build a life that doesn’t require escaping. If that is what vacations and weekend getaways are for you, you need to retool your life… A weekend away won’t fix that…

End of the day at the cabin...
